Title Research: The Poker Club
1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?
There is around 30 title cards. Starting with the film company and the production company. Then it states the main title, "The Poker Club." Then it dives in to all of the cast, unusually going in alphabetical order. Once the cast list is over, it goes more into the background help of the film. Then finally saying the director and the novel it was based on.
2. What connotations do the images carry? (how do you they make you feel)
The imaging is very detailed and graphic. It is different playing cards and the symbols floating around the words. The graphic details of the playing cards give the film a good quality and it makes me feel like the film is worth it to watch. The images also go through diffferent symbols and cards making me feel like I'm almost on a journey.
3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)
Based on the title sequence you can tell the film is a drama. You can also tell there is mystery there too. The dark background along with the playing cards lets the audience know that there will be drama and confusion. There was also a gun and some other scary objects to give off the dramatic/mysterious vibe.
4. What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The music was a big reason why it appealed to the audience. The music was dark and sounded like only mysterious films would have this soundtrack. The piano was a good touch to reel in the audience. The editing style is also very fitting for the genre. The editing was dark and you could see they put a shadow around the edges of the screen for a darker effect. The editing was good and very strong making the film look credible and have quality.
