Production: Our Song!



The music part of this surprisingly was one of the hardest choices for us. It took us pretty long to finally choose the song. We had a song that was not royalty free in mind. We couldn’t get the rights from the artist so we had to figure out a new song fast. We struggled because we kept putting off finding the perfect song. We knew we would find it but we didn’t want to choose yet. Our video is dramatic and depressing. We need to be careful with our song choice and make sure it really adds to the film. I environed the music video going along with the music. To be more specific, for example, a loud chorus playing when the actor slams the door. Knowing I wanted a song that we could match up with the video I was hoping to find the right one. We ended up choosing a song. I am excited by this choice and before making the video I was hopeful that it would be good for the project. Me and Riana both enjoy music that tells a story and impacts listeners. We wanted to add to that fantasy with the video really portraying the music. I understand that the song is the whole point of the video. This making me want to correlate the music video with the chorus. I also want to put the beat drop at dramatic scenes in the video. I think that really adds affect to the video. I am nervous to edit in the music however because I’m not the best at editing. I am also not sure how to input music very well. Me and Riana are excited to hear the sound and see the effect.

Title Research: Gattaca

1.  How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  Which ones?     There was a total of 18 title scenes, 20 including the two quotes at the very beginning. It started with the quotes then went to the main production company(Columbia), the production, who the film was by, finally the cast. They showed two cast members then the main title, Gattaca, then the rest of the cast. It is assumed that the two first cast members listed are the main actors. Then finally, the other important people that added to the film at the end. 2.  What connotations do the images carry?  ( how  do you they make you feel) The imaging at the start is most just blue screen. It shows something falling and bouncing around in the background. Then at the end you can see a main shaving his beard. The movie is starting at the end of the title sequence. Had so much fun!

Finally! We finished the music video. It was a lot of hard but fun work. I don't think the final result is perfect but it really has effort. I believe that my production skills have increased. This is because I have done two major projects at this point. I feel like editing and producing the music video was different from a commercial. The music video was much harder and in depth. I enjoyed filming the commercial more because it was more spontaneous and integrate. My favorite part of making pieces like the commercial and the music video, is the filming part. I feel like I am best at this side of production. My weak side is editing. I have never edited before this year. I still find it very hard and frustrating. I have learned a lot from my teammates and I am happy I am with them. With the music video I feel like we were creative however stayed within the Ice Cube vibe.
